Our Third Winner: Suzanne Mulvey
A 37-times capped Scotland international, Suzanne shows what happens when you combine passion, talent and a determination to make a difference. And now she’s looking to pay it forward to the next generation of young stars…
Suzanne’s mum nominated her for Football Fan of the Year, charting her daughter’s journey from playing in local sides from the age of 10, to eventually playing for the Scottish national team, where she has earned 37 caps.
Suzanne grew up in Edinburgh, turning out for Hibernian Girls from the age of 10, then Hibernian Ladies from 15. In her twenties, Suzanne upped sticks and moved to Glasgow, where she played for both Celtic and Glasgow City, before captaining Motherwell Ladies.
At Motherwell, Suzanne led them to promotion from SWPL2 as they stormed the league, with Suzanne voted the SWFA Player of the Year for 2018. Suzanne recently signed for Partick Thistle Ladies, where she was made captain.
During her career, Suzanne became married and has three young boys, working numerous jobs alongside her footballing career, even taking in a season as a professional over in Iceland.
But it was during lockdown that she found her true calling as she founded Sentinel Sports, a company that assists young athletes and helps them to turn their passion into a professional career.
From training camps and fitness sessions, to finding college scholarships in the USA, Sentinel Sports is Suzanne’s way of paying it forward and helping the next generation to live out their own footballing fantasies.
As Suzanne herself puts it, “Football has given me so much in my life, being able to give something back and help the next generation enjoy the game is something I’m dedicated to. And winning the £1000 means I can buy much-needed equipment to help the players improve, particularly at this difficult time.”
