This Month’s Winner: Daphne Baker
Following your beloved team for a lifetime is a journey which will have plenty of ups and downs. For 93-year-old Daphne Baker, her support has never wavered from the days she cycled to the stadium and paid a shilling, to today where she still pays her £10 a week to watch Grimsby Town.
Blundell Park has become something of a second home for our latest Football Fan of the Year winner, who is committed to passing on her support for the Mariners throughout the generations.
Nominated by her daughter, Daphne has been a lifelong supporter of the League Two side and has watched her side play hundreds of times throughout the years.
She remains a season ticket holder, and during lockdown she continued to pay £10 each week to watch her beloved side play.
In 1933, when Daphne was five years old, and Grimsby Town were second division champions, her father used to sit her on the crossbar of his bike and cycle from Nunthorpe to Blundell Park. From there, her love for the club started.
Daphne has a quilted coat, door mat, pyjamas, umbrella, dressing gown and a mirror all with the Club logo on them – a true Grimsby Town fan.
Daphne says the £10,000 prize for our overall Football Fan of the Year winner would be too much money, but she intends to use her £1,000 prize money to help the club she adores by paying for a coach to take fans to the match.
Could Daphne win the ultimate prize of Coral’s Football Fan Of The Year?
