Our Fourth Winner: Jimmy Brown
Jimmy is a die-hard Heart of Midlothian fan, as well as a proud uncle – and far too humble to nominate himself for Football Fan of the Year, that’s why we’re grateful to his mate Stuart for submitting this entry on Jimmy’ behalf…
Jimmy’s nephew Alan has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair, but that has never gotten in the way of his passion for the beautiful game, in large part due to his uncle Jimmy.
For almost 20 years now, Jimmy has made a round trip of on average 200 miles to pick Alan up, take him to the Hearts game and return him home afterwards. Whether that’s a home match at Tynecastle or further afield, Jimmy will often drive late into the wee hours of the morning – even if he has work the very next day.
Jimmy has said he’d love to use the £1,000 prize to visit Wembley in June to see England v Scotland in Euro 2021, joking that the hotel alone might cost that much.
If he were to win the £10,000 prize for our overall Football Fan of the Year winner, Jimmy says he might use it to buy a season ticket for his second club – Liverpool – and we have no doubt he’d have Alan there alongside him.
If you’re inspired by Jimmy’s story, or have a tale to match it – nominate yourself or a mate here.
